We are so excited to begin our journey to Nigeria. We have just started our deputation and support raising process and are praying that we can raise enough funds to be able to move within a year.
"The name 'A Place of Hope Africa' is the exact description of who we are, and what God has called us to do. Our mission is to bring the hope of Jesus Christ, as we care for the orphans and the vulnerable children of Nigeria, and the gospel to the community and village of Nsukka-Opi in Enugu State. A Place of Hope Africa started 8 years ago when the first three children arrived at their new forever home, and the love continues today. Our family has grown to over 70 children with ages ranging from newborns to those getting ready for University. Everyday they truly have a place to call home."
We will be working with fellow missionaries, Walt and Karen Troup to help with church planting, starting a school through APOHA, and serving in many other areas. Our passion is to see lives radically transformed by the love of Jesus Christ by each person we encounter throughout Nigeria. Please send us an email if you are interested in partnering with us on our calling to Nigeria.
My wife and I found a church home at Victory Baptist Church, and through the leadership of our pastor we began to grow in our walk with Christ. We began to get involved, first in the children church on the Children’s Church rotation. After serving a while in that capacity, we were asked to become leaders in the youth department. After some time in the youth, I started to feel the Lord calling me to do more. This was made clearer shortly after at our Independent Baptist Convention where I knew without a doubt that God was calling me to full-time ministry. I kept getting confirmation after confirmation, first with a conversation with my wife, and then through ongoing mentorship with my pastor. After some time of serving and praying for God to give me specific direction on what ministry He would have me in, He gave me clarity. I was seeking direction between pastoral ministry or missions, and had no idea of what He wanted me to do. We were keeping an open mind for whatever He had in store for us. It was during a mission trip to Saltillo, Mexico that my wife and I both, independently, felt the specific call to be missionaries. He has since given us confirmation after confirmation of this calling since. He has given my family a peace about this calling. After much prayer and seeking God’s will for where specifically he would want us to go, Walt and Karen Troup presented APOHA to our church in November. We both immediately felt a strong conviction about A Place of Hope and met with the Troups asking them about their ministry. The more we learned about their ministry there and the needs there the stronger that conviction grew. We called Walt and Karen a few days later and expressed this to them and that led to us meeting up for coffee to discuss further what the needs were and what specifically they would need help with. We then scheduled a trip and went April 5th-14th and we fell in love with the kids there. We fell in love with the staff there. We had a strong connection with Walt and Karen and feel as if a partnership with the Troups would give us a strong foothold there for the cause of Christ. We look forward to working with them and APOH and are excited to see how God will use us there.
